Arrested Song, by Irena Karafilly: Reading and Book Signing

Montreal West Public Library – 45 Westminster Ave S, Montréal-Ouest, QC H4X 1Y6, Canada

October 28, 2023 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM

We are delighted to announce that at 2:30 on Saturday, October 28, award-winning author Irena Karafilly will be joining us at the library to read from her new novel, Arrested Song. The book was released on March 28 2023, and has already received strong international praise, including its selection as Book of the Month by the Greek News Agenda.

Set during the Second World War and its aftermath, the novel follows “an extraordinary woman’s life and loves in war-torn Greece, and her dauntless struggle against social and political tyranny.” Anyone interested in the Greek islands and/or women’s rights is sure to enjoy this vicarious stay in the magical village of Molyvos. Fans of Lucinda Riley are likely to find this novel of interest. As Irena’s visit approaches, we’ll be sharing more reviews, but here are a few to get you started:

‘I enjoyed Arrested Song immensely… Karafilly succeeds brilliantly where I had decided not even to try.
A very accomplished novel.’

(LOUIS DE BERNIÈRES, bestselling author of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin)

‘A gripping, powerfully evocative chronicle of Greek island life in times of peace and war. Nothing is black and white here, least of all her feisty, iconoclastic heroine…hard to put this book down.’

(SOFKA ZINOVIEFF, author of Red Princess and Putney)

We look forward to seeing you there!
